ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Artists Talya Baharal and Gene Gnida combine their talents to create sculptural, wearable art pieces. As a young woman, Israel born Baharal pursued various careers including broadcast journalism and advertising. A jewelry course at Parsons School of Design in 1984 set the course for a new career in the creation jewelry.
Canada native Gene Gnida has shown his wood, stone and bronze sculptures for many years. In 1968 Gnida’s work was featured in an exhibition at Bell Canada’s pavilion at the Montreal Expo fairgrounds. Careers in furniture design and woodworking followed. More recently, in addition to his collaborative work with Baharal, Gnida has returned to sculpture. In 2000, his ceramics were awarded Best of Show prize by San Francisco’s Museum of Folk and American Craft.
Baharal and Gnida have worked together since the late eighties and live in upstate New York.
ABOUT THE WORK
Baharal and Gnida explore volume, form and line through their silver, bronze and copper pieces. Finely textured cables offset the smooth burnished surfaces of their highly sculptural work. Their often large, voluminous forms reflect a sculptural emphasis in their design. A quiet geometry
