ABOUT THE ARTIST
With the pursuit of an elegant simplicity in mind, David Ebner has been creating furniture for the past three decades. He is an artist/craftsman who works in four modes: Classical impressions of furniture, turned objects, sculptural furniture and sculpture.
Growing up in Buffalo, New York, Ebner spent many hours at the Albright Knox Art Museum studying works of art by Pollack, Smith and Nevelson. Upon graduating from college, he sought advanced studies at the London School of Furniture Design. After a two-year stint in the Armed Forces, he chose to pursue a life as a full-time studio craftsman and established studios on the south shore of Long Island, New York.
Curators and collectors consider David Ebner an integral part of the “Studio Craft” Furniture Movement. Mr. Ebner feels that he is creating “the antiques of tomorrow.” In the recent years, Ebner has embraced and enjoyed collaborating with fellow artist, Ivan Barnett, of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Recently, Ebner has been working with laminated bamboo, a material new to the market and valued for its strength and beauty. This new work is characterized by a distinctly Asian sense: spare, essential and elegant. The lines are soft, sweeping gently in graceful balance.
ABOUT THE WORK
David Ebner approaches his furniture designs with a dedication to using wood as his primary medium.
Ebner finds inspiration in the local landscape as well as in the rich history of his chosen medium. The function and beauty of any one of his pieces will always result from the feel, smell and shape of the particular wood from which it has been crafted.
