ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Texas into the baby boomer generation, now lives in Northern New Mexico.
ABOUT STATEMENT
"I find imposing a graphic design over a natural material and then exposing that uncontrolled naturalness to be a most intriguing concept; hard edged drawing over unexpected wood grain. A simple idea but with endless variation. This dichotomy is present in all of my work, be it a large, involved wall piece, or a simple wood pin".
ABOUT THE WORK
Wood pins are made by sand carving (sandblasting) designs into 1/4" thick poplar wood. The design work is cut through a resist materal which protects the wood from the etching effect of sandblasting. The etched wood is sanded, painted, until the final effect is achieved, the wood is then sealed. A simple nicklel pin back is glued to the wood and protected by a suede patch.
