Robyn Horn
About the Artist

Formally trained in painting and sculpture and from a family of painters, Robyn Horn was introduced to turned and shaped wood by a family member. During the early 1980’s, Horn felt tremendous enthusiasm for the work of such sculptors as Isamu Noguchi and Barbara Hepworth. When her brother-in-law, Sam Horn came to her studio with examples of turned wood he had made at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, she instantly felt the expressive power those pieces conveyed. Horn found “truth in wood as a material,” an idea that Hepworth promoted. For Horn, “the look and feel of wood lends itself to a warmer feeling than stone, which adds to the intrinsic value of this material.” Horn adds, “The process of wood materializing into stone shapes is the basis of what I am trying to accomplish creatively.”
