About the Artist
Krinos was born and raised in Athens, Greece and was very close to her grandfather, a famous poet, who shared with her his passion for the arts. From a very young age she dreamed of attending art school.
At the time she graduated from high school, art programs in Greece offered training in only sculpture or painting. On the advice of friends, she travelled to London for her studies. She explored different media but a project involving metal was a favorite and she decided to pursue Jewelry Design. Upon graduation she received a grant from the British Crafts Council which helped her set up a studio and she has remained in London since.
Her work is inspired by the urban environment of London. Her dark oxidized pieces are, in effect, her drawings. Sometimes a piece "happens" because of the stones she selects as a starting point, other times she works from photographs of buildings. She loves creating jewelry because it is one of the few art forms that can be worn and she enjoys the challenge this poses.
About the Work
I started designing and making jewelry about 25 years ago, when I established my London studio. I have since shown my work in many exhibitions in the UK, Europe, the USA and Japan. My jewelry is made in precious metals, mainly silver and gold. I often use translucent precious gemstones in my designs. Although the majority of my pieces are one-offs, I occasionally produce limited ranges of work, sometimes in mixed media. I enjoy working to commission and I like designing with a specific theme in mind.
