From the Vitra Design Museum to Santa Fe, the Museum of International Folk Artpresents the much-anticipated opening of, Alexander Girard: A Designer’s Universe.
In celebration of the exhibition, and in honor of Girard, Patina presents, Inspiration in Design of Space: Our first gallery-talk of the year, hosted by our director, Ivan Barnett.
Ivan Barnett has enjoyed a successful career as an artist for over 40 years. He created a name for himself during the Folk Art Movement as one of the first contemporary artists to interpret traditional folk forms. In the early 80s he discovered seven of his own pieces at the Museum of International Folk Artin the long-term exhibition, Multiple Visions, created & curated by the renowned designer, Alexander Girard.
Ivan’s deep admiration for the designer, reflecting on Girard’s influence on his career, will lead us through a guided narration spanning 40 years; through a brief history of Ivan’s artistic journey, into his introduction of Girard’s Multiple Visions, on to the design of Patina Gallery in 1999.
With great respect to the aesthetic sensitivity and spacial design of Alexander Girard, Ivan evolved the gallery into the destination we know today: A haven of extraordinary works against a backdrop that is itself, an organic and dynamic work of art.
Patina was designed with spacial awareness, color, proportion & thematic intrigue to create a landscape of personal discovery.
