"The opera piece came together one evening while I was in the workshop designing a new collection. I had a booklet from the Santa Fe Opera lying on my desk.
I have had many fond memories of my visits to the Opera with Allison. One night, it was raining and cold, and we had to sting warm whiskey in the intermission to stay warm. Another year I was with both Allison and Ivan having a fantastic time, enjoying the impressive stage design, costumes, and amazing hair by David [Zimmermann]. It is always such a treat to go there. The smell of the desert and the culture is such an inspiration! That was why I felt I had to make a piece in honor of all of that.
The mother of pearl is the moon, the Montana agate is the landscape behind the stage, alluding to the golden sunset just before the show begins. I’m looking forward to many more visits to Santa Fe and the Opera house; there is no other like it!" – Peter Schmid of Atelier Zobel
