Sterling silver, 18K yellow gold, boxwood, Ethiopian opal, steel, patinas, copper wire
As part of Lluís Comín's Ithaca collection, a valiant portrait of Ulysses is positioned proudly against the vast terrain of the open sea. Within a plane of sterling silver, Comín molds our hero into life as one may make out the emulation of a torso emerging from the metallic surface of his brooch. A portion of boxwood is eloquently strung to the side of our main affection by the way of copper wire. As if a staff, the subject nearly looks to lean against the wooden form, to coax our direction in the maker's artful composition. For visual relief, Comín has strategically placed a piece of high karat gold to our left, a gleaming serenity to ease one's mind. In the core of the work is a sparkling opal which exudes a spectrum of luminosity once immersed in the light. The stone offers a refreshing juxtaposition and a resplendence to enrich our fascination. A grand composition, light to hold and seamless to adorn, Comín continues to astound us with his masterful imagination.
