Sterling silver, bronze, ebony, stone, steel, patinas
As part of Lluís Comín's Ithaca collection, a valiant portrait of Ulysses is positioned proudly from out of a plane of sterling silver. From the body of sterling silver, one may conceive a human torso. Comín brilliantly molds the figure, with additional diligence to the shadows and contours of his shape. A broader symbolic work may be rendered from observation. An anthropomorphic character stands between a bold stone and gracefully coated in a sheet of bronze. Perhaps a tale of evolution as we transitioned from the stone age to the bronze age under the umbrella of nature herself. Such a dramatic work is astonishingly light to behold, its undulating surfaces, smooth to the touch. Its maker persuades the onlooker to take a closer glance at humanity against a backdrop of our humble, organic beginnings. Our strong affiliation with the world around us remains a constant as we travel from one corner of our metamorphic timeline to the next.
