18K yellow gold, shakudo, freshwater pearls, circa 1988
This luxurious long pearl necklace, from the late Carrie Adell, features 16 touchstones in 18K yellow gold and shakudo, resembling cracked rocks. Each is hollow in form, and individually handmade to resemble precious rocks. No two are ever alike, and the seeming randomness of the patterns was quite carefully orchestrated during the milling process.
The pearls, like iridescent pieces of rice, are intentionally colored to play with the touchstones, in a signature way, known well and adored by Adell's collectors.
