Sterling silver, 18K yellow gold, copper, lapis lazuli, steel, patinas, esparto
As part of Lluís Comín's Ithaca collection, a valiant portrait of Ulysses is positioned proudly from the inside of a metal frame. Out of the body of sterling silver the contours of a figure enliven the composition as Comín ever so gracefully molds his character. Just below his subject's grand visage is a strand of copper wire, folded over a fibrous esparto string. A tactile devise stirring our interest in its agrestal chronicle, placing oneself as Ulysses on his journeys against the deep sea. Bold lapis lazuli stuns the eye with its glorious, deep hue. Bits of pyrite sparkle from its surface, leaving one in awe with a glance amongst its corporeal exterior. Comín's metal structure is enriched with a bit of textured high karat gold, a provocative attribution to balance the piece as well as a vivid illumination of the maker's artful design. Striking narrative with gentle disposition once worn, Comín composes a substantial piece worthy of our great adventurer.
