Sterling silver, lapis lazuli, steel, patinas
As part of Lluís Comín's Ithaca collection, a valiant portrait of Ulysses is positioned proudly from out of a plane of sterling silver, hung gracefully by a steel collar wire. Upon the ingot of silver, artist Lluís Comín positions two forms on its surface that breath a dichotomy of balance and harmony. Continuously astonished by the natural world around us, Comín creates an artistic composition that seeks to conceptualize our place, as the hero in its unfeigned frontier. With another piece of silver, the artist masterfully sculpts the like of a human torso, constructed as if one excitedly expands their arms in either direction in exclamation. Adding further definition, Comín blankets the side of his molded shape with patina, emulating the contours of its intricate form. To its opposite is a fine lapis lazuli, accentuating such rich hue that the emboldened blue gracefully appeases a dialogue of balletic asymmetry. A punctilious object to wear upon the body, its maker skillfully imbues a discourse of captivating sophistication.
