Location: Agua Fria Street, Santa Fe, NM
Santa Fe’s history lives and breathes in the village of Agua Fria. Its original single-lane dirt path led from Santa Fe to Mexico City over 400 years ago. The Camino Real Agua Fria village is always my first go-to place when I need a shot of body-and-soul immersion. No tourists are to be seen. In many ways it feels like I’m trespassing on the public road that takes me past the village’s Santuario de Guadalupe church. Many of the residents there are descendants of Coronado. Subject matter presents itself constantly, and I’m careful not to slam my pickup door when I stop to take images.
