Copper, diamond, 14K & 24K yellow gold, brass, nickel, sterling silver
A marriage of metals. Bands of color are soldered together and linked in panels to create an extraordinary work by the late, great maker, Carrie Adell. The piece reminded Carrie of her hikes at the Point Lobos Reserve at Big Sur. Observing the piece today, its undulating form and earthen tones are a fine resemblance to the coastal grandeur of a lush landscape amongst the mediating waves as they break ashore. As the defining, finishing touch, Adell sprinkles diamonds upon its opulent terrain, meant to represent the 'scree', the detritus base of a cliff where rocks tumble down. To this, the artist shared, "I made the diamonds the scree because it's all so precious, not just the diamonds, but every molecule, because we interact with every molecule on the Earth. The 'Sediments piece was a consummation of what I needed to say." Quite an impressive and lovingly created treasure to cherish for days to come.
