"I love the metaphoric qualities of architecture. Here, multiple doorways and columns imply the tension between stasis and choices in our lives. Sitting in a cafe in Bolzano, Italy, I was admiring the architecture and looking for opportunities to make use of these classical forms. This woman in a delicious, red blouse appeared, and began moving towards me. The progression of vertical elements receding behind her, as she reaches the edge of the sunlit street, brings an extra dose of tension to the metaphor. I like to think that the doorways in our heart open on their own timeline, and can occur suddenly when we are not actively seeking to unlock that particular portal." - Sol Hill
