Daphne Krinos

Honoring the hand of man

The jewelry of Daphne Krinos invites you to touch the places she loves. The streets of London, where she lives. Summers in Greece, where she grew up. The stuff of everyday life, which the devoted walker discovers strolling through the neighborhood.

There’s majesty in man-made structures – metal fences, scaffolding, street art and buildings in various stages of development or decay. And over the years, she found inspiration in the photography of Bernd and Hilla Becher that represents Daphne’s view that industrial buildings are monuments of sorts.

Interesting buildings lead to ideas for new jewelry. In particular, she loves the light-absorbing quality of unpolished gold, a reminder summers in her native Greece. She chooses silver that is oxidized or plated, reminiscent of ironwork, a material that accentuates the colors of the stones gives each piece a graphic drawing-like quality.

She often adorns her pieces with translucent semiprecious stones and especially likes those that have a slightly unusual cut or shape.
