Lucia Antonelli

Using global culture to reinvigorate antique elements.

Lucia Antonelli was born in New York and works in Petaluma, California. Part scavenger, part artist, she plucks forgotten treasures, such as antique French brass beads from late 19th century handbags, then reimagines them as art to be worn by the women of today.

Lucia can sometimes harvest thousands of beads from a single handbag.

Then she combines them with beads from Bhutan or Ethiopia, creating a one-of-a-kind pieces that are timeless mixtures of cultures whose home is everywhere at once. Braided beadwork. Tassles. Patterns of color and texture and light. Truly a master of beads, Lucia is also a master of mystery. Her pieces beg questions and leaves their answers to the imagination. On a woman’s skin, Lucia’s necklaces and bracelets have a natural drape that accentuates one’s own beautiful lines, tracing them in history.
