Vestiges

Patina Gallery Presents

“I would find objects that I thought, something about their shapes or the materiality of them, intrigued me. They have some kind of integrity”
Latondra Newton

Vestiges is an exploration of enduring presence. The beauty of what survives, evolves, and continues to resonate across generations.
With this deeply personal second collection at Patina Gallery, Latondra Newton invites us to encounter history intimately: to wear it, preserve it, and become part of its ongoing narrative.
In conversation with antique and vintage artifacts, found natural elements, and ethically sourced gemstones, Newton transforms objects already marked by time. Worn surfaces, fragments shaped by travel, and forms carrying the imprint of distant cultures are thoughtfully reimagined.

Fragments collected over decades from Northern and Western Africa, Central and Eastern Asia, the Middle East, North America, and Northwestern Europe are coupled with Newton’s subtle adjustments to proportion, setting, and composition, revealing the enduring beauty already present within the material.
A quiet artifact melds into wearability.

In this collection, ancient surfaces converse with contemporary craftsmanship.
Patina, texture, and imperfection become essential elements, revealing the richness found in age, endurance, and transformation. Many are paired with ethically mined gemstones, selected for their character, integrity, and natural individuality.
“You think about when something is 2000 or 3000 years old, how many lifetimes it's experienced…perhaps, what has happened in our world history over the lifetime of something that is so old.”
Latondra Newton
The resulting works are contemporary heirlooms: objects designed to be worn, lived with, and passed forward. They honor the histories they inherit while creating space for new memories, new connections, and new meaning.

In a culture increasingly drawn to authenticity and permanence.
Vestiges offers something rare: adornments that bridge past and present, inviting us to consider not only what remains, but what we choose to preserve.
