PAT FLYNN
The beauty of industry
Thematically, Pat Flynn’s work emerges from the world of heavy industry. He grew up on a dairy farm and lives in upstate New York, where the winters are harsh and where working with one’s hands requires a determined mind as well as tough skin.
These are the elements he builds into his well-known nail bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces. Forged from actual nails, they retain their distinct nuances, such as their head and slim taper.
To the nails he adds precious gemstones set in gold or palladium, ball closures, and hinges made from 18-carat gold. As the pieces are worn, the black iron lightens to a gorgeous gray.
For Pat, the magic moment occurs when he fuses 24-carat gold dust to iron to create a shimmering piece that is equally hard-edged and glamorous.
