Brown hand coiled micaceous clay - Circa 2005

A stunning work to behold, derived from the earth and transformed into spiritual inspiration. Renowned Native artist, Lonnie Vigil molds clay found from the Nambé Oweenge Pueblo in New Mexico to create contemporary works of compelling vision. Carefully, the artist coils brown micaceous clay into a graciously rotund form, possessing a wide, slight undulated opening at the top. While in the firing process, fire clouding blushed the surface of the work. The artist happily contends that, "In a way, for me, if they don’t have fire clouds, they feel a little incomplete. The way I feel, the fire clouding is nature’s way of designing." One's gaze is immediately captured by Vigil's work of utter charm while its micaceous body is raised aflutter with mica flecks that sparkle whenever light touches its radiant surface. Continuously impassioned by the artistic work of his ancestors, Vigil endeavors to rapture the heart with his one-of-a-kind creations that float in the balance of modern antiquity. Infused with vitality and character that is their own, this work of art is sure to fulfill one's most soul-stirring engagement.
