Encaustic Monotype, wax, paper on freestanding wooden frame
Using careful thought and precision, Suzy Wahl creates an artful assemblage of encaustic monotypes. Using a warmed glass plate, she draws her composition with the use of colored wax. With satisfaction, she presses strong paper onto its waxen surface to reveal a mirror image of her mind's intention. Creating pieces of art with unique, compelling personality.
Wahl's exquisite use of value and proportion effectively gives one the feeling of a space in time. Tranquility percolates through the work as the artist takes us through her warm narrative. As if blanketed by the solace of a heated summer's eve, sharp hues of vermillion create a thick tapestry across the sky. Lying on the intermittent plain are shades of blue and green, lightly blending in and out of sight. Distinct line and shape are placed as if wandering boats, resting upon her horizon line. Wahl creates a serene escape into a place delightfully thwarted by the trials of a mindful, contemplative and somber atmosphere.
